1.Hello Brothers. Could you give us a brief history of the band? When and why start KRYPTOS? What it means the name of the band?
Hello to you too and thank you very much for the interview.
We started Kryptos back in 1998, which today seems like it was about 10,000 years ago haha. We started out just to have some fun by playing some covers of our favourite bands, but slowly we started writing our own music and figured out that it doesn’t sound that bad haha. And here we are 20 years later with 4 albums under our belt and a 5th one coming soon. We never really thought it would get this far, but that’s life for you.
Kryptos basically means ‘hidden’ in Greek. We thought that would be a great name because our music has always walked that fine line between our classic metal and thrash influences. Although over the last few years our classic metal influences have become more and more prominent, you can still hear our slightly more extreme influences every now and then, especially with the vocals.

2.Which is the current line-up of the band? Could you do a brief presentation of the members?
The band at the moment consists of Rohit Chaturvedi on guitars, Ganesh K. on bass and me (Nolan Lewis) on vocals/guitars. Our drummer Anthony Hoover unfortunately relocated to Canada so now we just get a bunch of friends to fill in whenever possible. But it works pretty well for us since many of our friends are into the same music as we are, so they fit in really well whenever required.
To tell you briefly about us, Rohit is a total audiophile. He collects vintage gear, tapes, records etc and loves to smoke up with his pet plastic frog. Ganesh loves wearing bellbottoms while pretending to be the long lost member of Led Zeppelin on weekends. I, on the other hand, love science fiction, fried eggs and weird cartoons, especially ones that feature strange animals haha.

3.Which records do you have released until now? Tell us a bit about your editions.
So far we’ve released 4 albums. Spiral Acent in 2004, The Ark of Gemini in 2008, The Coils of Apollyon in 2012 and Burn Up The Night in 2016. Our early albums showcased some of our slightly more extreme influences (thrash, death) in addition to our classic metal influences, but from our third album the classic influences started becoming more prominent. However, on our fourth album Burn Up The Night, we completely embraced our classic metal/80s metal influences, which is why it sounds so ‘vintage’. In fact, it almost sounds like it came out in 1984 haha.

4.What about are your lyrics and which are your inspirations to write music and lyrics?
A lot of different stuff, but mostly our lyrics are based on occult and sci-fi themes. But you can also find some good old ‘Priest-ish’ lyrics about sticking to your guns and living life on your terms.
You know, stuff that makes you want to bang your head like an idiot on the way to work haha.

5.In 2013 Kryptos played in Wacken Open Air.Tell us a bit about this experience. Any other good, bad, or funny remember from any of your gigs ?
Yeah, that was awesome. We played Wacken a few years after that as well and it’s always great to play there. Tons of people from all over the world, lots of beer, sometimes shitty weather but hey, it’s always fun.
The last time we played at Wacken it was really muddy and I think we lost our shoes in the mud on the first day and had to buy gum boots that were 2 sizes too small because they only had kid sizes and our feet are too small for European sizes haha. That wasn’t very comfortable, but when you get drunk it doesn’t really matter.
6.Please.Could you give us a brief explanation about the next lyrics of KRPYTOS "Burn Up the Night" álbum?:
-Blackstar Horizon: This one is about space mission that goes beyond the edge of the universe only to find a sinister, malevolent presence that is older than time itself.
-Full Throttle: This is your typical street metal anthem. All about raising your fists and flipping all forms of authority the middle finger.
-The Summoning: This is one of my favourites. It’s about a black mass that happens in the woods on an ancient hill. However it could also be interpreted as a dream, but in the end the devil claims all. There’s no escape, so hide your beer haha.
-Unto Elysium: This is a pretty gloomy track about a guy who is haunted by the ghosts of his past. And it eventually drives him insane because these spirits eventually torment him to the point of no return.
-One Shot to Kill: This is a very typical ‘Judas Priest’ kind of anthem. All about taking your best shot and never giving up.
-Waverider: This is actually based on a lesser known DC coming character called Waverider who helps Superman defeat Doomsday because Superman is too pussy to do it himself haha.
-Prepare to Strike: This is a dystopian, sci-fi, war of the worlds kind of track. Alien enslavement, underground rebellion and all that cool shit.
8.Burn Up the Night: This is all about getting out on the highway and heading out into the sunset. Basically it’s all about living life on your terms and never compromising on who you are.
7.How is the Metal scene in your country? Could you tell us a bit about Metal Music scene in your country (Bands, Metal Pubs, places to go, etc..)
It isn’t that great to be honest. Sure there are a lot of bands, but most of the bands here play whatever is trendy at the moment and then they disappear after a few years. And there haven’t been many quality album releases either. I mean, most of the music isn’t my cup of tea, so maybe someone else may have a different opinion, but as far as I can see, most bands here aren’t really INTO the music. They seem to be content with just going through the motions rather than pushing themselves to get out of India and tour and things like that.
There aren’t that many venues to play at as well, so that’s a big problem in India. Sure there are pubs that play rock/metal music, but most of the pubs or clubs here aren’t designed to be live venues, so there are very few places that bands can play at regularly.

9.Please, give us a opinnion about the next Words:
-Mythology: I personally love mythology. In fact our second album has a lot of mythological references, but we put our own spin on things and twisted them up a bit.
-Nature: The best environment to trip balls in. It’s too bad we as a race are fucking things up so much, but one day nature shall come back with a vengeance and things will return to what they once were.
- Occultism and paranormal science: Again, personally I’m really interested in both topics. I read a lot about both, which sometimes shows in our songs, especially on our third album. It’s not that I worship the devil or something haha, but I’m really fascinated with the darker side of life.
-Tattoos: Unfortunately I don’t have any yet, but I will soon. Need to save up some money instead of drinking so much haha.
-Beer: Beer is why I don’t have tattoos, because I blow all my money on it haha. But yeah, fucking beer is the best. The best party drink ever.
-Metal Music: Honestly, I wouldn’t be who I was if it wasn’t for heavy metal. This music changed my life forever. After all, it isn’t you who chooses the music, but the music that chooses you ;)
10.Future plans for KRYPTOS?
We’re currently wrapping up our 5th album, which will be out worldwide through AFM Records in 2019 and we’re working on a European tour for 2019 as well, so lots to look forward to. Hopefully we can come to Spain as well. That would be amazing.
11-Something to add to the readers or editors of METAL MUSIC CLAN??
A massive cheers and fist bumps to you all. You guys rule. Check our music out and hopefully we’ll see you guys on tour sometime somewhere. Till then, rock hard ride free!
